about the ladder of progress

Since 1994, the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society has offered the CLAS Ladder of Progress, a structured assessment system benefiting all skill levels, from beginners to Fellows.

Whether you seek occasional workshops, accreditation at a specific standard, or tutor accreditation, the ladder caters to your needs.

Entry can be made at any level, ranging from receiving a Certificate of Calligraphy to pursuing a CLAS National Diploma in Calligraphy (Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced levels), or aiming for CLAS Fellowship.

further learning

CLAS LiveOnline courses offer an opportunity for participants to engage in online classes facilitated by a CLAS accredited tutor.

The first set of courses is designed for preparing work for the Certificate of Calligraphy, the first step on CLAS’s Ladder of Progress. They’re ideal for beginners improving their script skills. Membership isn’t required to join, but members get discounted rates.
