about

The Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society (CLAS) founded in 1994, is based in the United Kingdom with a world-wide membership that includes not only calligraphers, but lettering artists working with a variety of materials. Whether you are just starting out in the wonderful craft of calligraphy, have more experience, or if you are at the top of the profession, there is something in CLAS for you.

CLAS exists to promote the study, practice and teaching of western calligraphy in all its forms, and to generate awareness and appreciation among the wider public. It is a properly constituted, non-profit organisation, details of which can be found on the Charity Commission website. It belongs to its members each of whom have equal voting rights.

Becoming a member of CLAS has so many benefits. Each year you’ll receive four copies of the EDGE, regular CLASnews updates including listings for workshops, courses and events. You will also have access to our unique Ladder of Progress learning structure.

As a member you are invited to take part in the AGM Day in March each year. The day includes the Art & the Letter Exhibition, demonstrations and a keynote lecture.

See our Membership page for a complete list of benefits you get for becoming a member of CLAS.
