Heritage Crafts Association

The Heritage Crafts Association has been formed to support and promote heritage crafts as a fundamental part of our living heritage.

It is unique as an organisation in believing that craft skills should be protected, promoted and recorded as part of our living heritage in their own right, not merely in terms of the objects they produce or their conservation value to old buildings.

CLAS believes strongly in taking steps to preserve and maintain calligraphy into the future, and the passing on of skills and techniques, with the encouragement of individual calligraphers to learn and progress as far as they want to or their ability takes them. The CLAS Ladder of Progress is the backbone of our Society, giving everyone a chance to improve, with encouragement and help from those more experienced. The CLAS Ladder of Progress courses, and CLAS Certificate of Competence courses, held anywhere in the country where we are asked to go, indicate our commitment to this aim. Similarly the annual CLAS Festival, although fun and a chance to meet new people and make friends, enables those who attend to learn new skills and develop their calligraphy further.

CLAS is proud to be an affiliated group of the Heritage Crafts Association.
