Membership is open to anyone, wherever they may live. CLAS sees itself as an international organisation reaching out to the world. Members of all abilities are welcomed regardless of how new a beginner or how famed a practitioner they may be. There is an important role for everyone.

CLAS is especially encouraging of teachers. It is the belief of the Society that an adequate supply of good teachers is the most productive influence to the benefit of the art.

The perspective of CLAS is forward looking and progressive. Study of the many centuries of wonderful work which is still available in museums and libraries is greatly encouraged but not so much to indulge a return to ancient practice, as to inform and energise contemporary modern work whether motivated by aspirations of Art, or Craft. The watchword of the Society is QUALITY.
